The Art of Textile Photography – Trials and Tribulations
A presentation by Joe Coca, photographer and author of The Human Thread: Photography of Joe Coca (Thrums Books).
6:00-7:00 p.m. Arizona time, via Zoom
For forty years and on five continents, Joe Coca has photographed traditional textile artists, creating intimate portraits illustrating the work of hands and the everyday life of the weavers. His book, "The Human Thread" (Thrums Books, 2019), brings together a selection of his stunning photographs documenting these rich textile traditions. Through his photographs, Coca shares the lives, environment, communities, and skills of weavers. In his presentation, Coca will share the trials and tribulations associated with documenting traditional weavers and the remarkable photographs that result from building relationships with his subjects.
