Community Gathering: Celebrating Culture/Unpacking Stereotypes
10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
This free, day-long program includes talks, mini workshops, and dialogue circles around topics of race, identity, stereotypes, bias, reclaiming identity/symbols, healing and resilience, and celebrating culture. Topics and presentations will be multicultural and reflect diverse identity groups. Highlights also include cultural performances, hands-on art activities, and games. Teachers can earn professional development hours for attending and receive resources for the classroom. This program is held in conjunction with the exhibit "Sorting Out Race: Examining Racial Identity through Thrift Store Donations" with support from the University of Arizona Office of Diversity and Multicultural Engagement, Arts Foundation of Southern Arizona, Tucson Chinese Cultural Center, and others.
