Arizona State Museum strives to develop and maintain strong and positive working relationships with colleagues representing Arizona's sovereign Native communities through these three key avenues:

Southwest Native Nations Advisory Board (SWNNAB)
Arizona State Museum's Southwest Native Nations Advisory Board (SWNNAB) was organized in the late 1980s, initially to inform the development of the Paths of Life exhibition, one of the first in the country to involve extensive Native American consultants.
Today, SWNNAB includes up to two representatives from each of the 22 federally recognized tribes in Arizona and provides advice and feedback to ASM on its state-mandated mission and on the development of exhibits and public programs.

Repatriation
Compliance pursuant to the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA).

Consultations
ASM curators strive to include Native perspectives and voices in all aspects of their work, which includes not only issues related to collections care, but exhibits and public programs as well.
